Into the Crack.
Recently, my friends and I explored the Wet Beaver.
This was a first for me, traversing such territory with others; and I have to say, having friends to help navigate through this exciting and unfamiliar region was an invigorating experience.
When we first began our trek into the Wet Beaver, it was just starting to get hot.
Experts recommend that you start out slow, so as not to rush the process and finish too early.
Though we had to stop, multiple times, to hydrate and catch our breath, it gave us opportunity to conserve our energy, build anticipation, and enjoy the views along the way.
Of which there were many.
As we climbed, further and further, bodies flushed by the heat as we came nearer to the end, this ménage à trois wound up all the way at the Crack.
This particular spot was popular, and had been visited by many before us. I can imagine why, its views were astonishing.
Nestled between the dry arid folds of the landscape surrounding was the most luscious wet spot. We had nearly reached the climax.
It was time.
Time to delve deepest into the Wet Beaver.
We “finished” our day with a final plunge.
After discarding most of my clothes, I moved to the edge. My heartbeat quickened, and though nervous, the urge to succumb to the pleasure of diving into the Wet Beaver was overwhelming.
And so I jumped. All I needed was one little push over the precipice.
What followed next was pure exhilaration. For just a few short moments, I felt totally weightless. This guttural scream came from deep within me, my breath hitched, my body tensed, and I felt total and complete ecstasy.
Coming up for air, I took a deep breath and smiled softly, exhausted but oh so very satisfied.
I did it. I “finished” my journey into the Wet Beaver and I went all the way.
When I was done, I laid on my back and caught my breath, totally satiated. I shivered in delight and let my body return to normal.
Whatever “normal” is.
I had never done something like this before, been so willing to try something new and adventitious. It was a feeling I wasn’t likely to forget.
And of course we documented all of our deep dives into The Crack at Wet Beaver Creek, which I’ll share below.
Did I forget to mention that this was a hike?
*oopsie ;)
