Moonrise at Sunset.

It looked like magic.

No, it felt like magic.

No no no, it was magic.

The kind of magic you experience once in a lifetime, an unplanned but perfectly executed and timed moment to witness Alaska’s unparalleled beauty.

The goodnight of one day and the good morning of another, all under the same glorious glowing sky.

To set the scene for you, I was out at the Kenai Docks with a friend and we were watching the sun set.

I've watched quite a few sunsets in my life, but the number of times I’ve watched the sun set, like really marveled at its descent below the horizon, has been far less often.

But this? This particular sunset?

It wasn’t just about what I saw, but what I felt and the company I was with. Culmination of all three and you’ve got, simply put, magic.

So we’re watching the sun go down, lazily dropping lower and lower after a long day shining bright, and there comes the moment when we no longer see the sun. Of course the sky remained a dazzling display of color and clouds, so we lingered awhile before deciding to head back to the car.

And when we turn around? There, across the other end of the sky is the most spectacular sight: the Pink Moon.

Sorry, correction: the Super Pink Moon.

The statuesque and breathtaking Super Pink Moon.

Yeah.

The “Pink Moon”, named after the herb moss pink (one of the most widespread flowers of spring) occurs every April, and the Super Moon is when the Moon appears as its biggest and brightest.

So within the same sky, within the same couple of minutes, we were blessed to see the brilliant sun pass the torch off to the Super Pink Moon, a rather unforgettable experience.

Wow, first time getting out to watch the sunset and this is what I see? Looks like I’ve gotta STARt getting out here more often then…

*I simply had to wear an outfit with stars on it. Just seemed to fit the vibe
